Talking to clients every day, one of the biggest issues we hear is simple: accessibility.
Sure, you can use Japanese sites like Suumo and Athome but let’s be real, they’re clunky, unfamiliar, often hard to navigate even with Google Translate, and definitely not built for an international audience. We've always done our best to help clients find listings ourselves, digging through listings, translating, double-checking, but there are only so many hours in a day. And as our client base continues to grow, we knew we needed a better, more scalable solution.
So, in partnership with our co-founder Angelo, we built Nipponhomes, an English-language search and discovery tool that pulls real-time listings from Japanese real estate websites and displays them in a clean, familiar interface that feels more like Zillow or Redfin.
No logins, no paywalls, no subscription just to see the price. Just a free, fast, and easy way to explore the Japanese housing market, whether you’re looking for a ski home in Hokkaido, a beach house in Chiba, or a tiny fixer-upper in the countryside.
You can search by price, location, home type, even distance to train stations. Want to see what’s within walking distance to a ski resort or an onsen town? You can. Want to find an ultra-cheap house in a tiny village? It’s on the map. We have every listing we could find online, and we’re adding new ones every day.
Our map is already filled with thousands of properties across the country, from 3 million yen countryside kominkas to high-end Tokyo penthouses. Every corner of Japan is represented, and every price range is fair game.
And here’s the best part: because we already help people buy homes in Japan every day, we built our services right into the site. If you find a home you love, just click the “Book a Consultation” button and my calendar pops up. You can chat with us directly, and we’ll walk you through the entire process: from checking the home’s condition and contacting the seller, all the way to signing the contract and getting the keys.
We’re still in the early stages of this tool, but we’re moving fast. New Feature we hope to add soon:
A zoning map that shows short-term rental legality
More currency options for international buyers
A "Sold" filter so you can see what homes have moved
A Zestimate-style feature to estimate fair market value
For now, the site is completely free to use, and we plan to keep the core features free. Down the line, we might roll out a few premium options, advanced filters, analytics tools, maybe even investment scorecards, but the mission will always be the same: make buying a home in Japan easier for everyone.
We built Nipponhomes because we wanted it for ourselves. And we think a lot of you do too.
If you spot a bug, hit a dead end, or have an idea that could make this tool better, let us know. We’re still building. And we want this to be a tool that grows with you.
We hope Nipponhomes becomes the go-to English search and discovery tool for Japanese real estate.
And who knows… maybe one day, we’ll go global.
Thanks for being part of this from the beginning. We can’t wait to see what you find.
