Why this exists

Japan’s mountains are incredible.
Being clueless is not.

Most visitors show up knowing nothing and survive on pointing and nodding. This course fixes that — fast. Not years of study. Six weeks of what actually matters on the mountain.

TJ, a friend of YukiHomes, on a mountain after a guided backcountry splitboarding trip. He loves Japan and snowboarding. He does send it a little too hard.

Safety-first curriculum

We start where it matters most – avalanche warnings, closed terrain signage, calling for rescue. The first thing you need to survive is the ability to read a warning sign.

Real-world, immediately

No textbook dialogues. You’ll learn how to order ramen at midnight after a powder day, navigate an izakaya, and thank your host properly.

Respect the culture

Japan’s locals notice when you make the effort. Onsen etiquette, mountain respect, basic social cues – small things that go a long way.

Built for skiers, not students

Short lessons you can do between runs. No grammar drills. No memorizing kanji you’ll never use. Just practical survival Japanese for people who’d rather be outside.

What’s covered

6 weeks. Zero fluff.

Each week is a short, practical module. Get through all six before your flight and you’ll be operating at a completely different level.

01

Mountain Basics

Lifts, runs, trail maps, conditions, talking to ski patrol.

02

Avalanche & Emergency Safety

Closed terrain signage, calling 119, describing an injury, giving your location to rescue.

03

Food & Ramen Shops

Ordering ramen, sushi, reading a basic menu, convenience store staples, getting the bill.

04

Bars, Izakayas & Après

Ordering rounds, kanpai, how izakaya menus work, not tipping, basic bar chat with locals.

05

Onsen, Bathrooms & Etiquette

Onsen rules, the tattoo conversation, shower-first culture, decoding the Japanese toilet panel.

06

Meeting People & Local Respect

Introductions, mountain etiquette, phrases that make the locals genuinely smile.
